It is what I have been teaching as part of my training program in de-escalation aggression. After pacing a persons noncompliance. "I know you're not wanting to ______, now, and you won't until you're ready..." Keep the dialogue going then, ask, "Is there anything else you need to be ready?" I teach my de-escalation program primary in hospital (mental health) and educational settings, but I pick up this tip years ago when I was in sales.
